Third Season World Circuit Chronicles

Fourth
World Circuit Championship

Season Preview

After just missing the World Championship last season, I'm really ready this time. I know I can win races but my concentration level has to improve throughout the whole race. For the fourth season, I'm still with the McLaren-Honda team, along with Bob. The team has maintained its faith in me, but I know that now is the time to deliver the goods. I have a brand-new joystick and I'm going for it!

QUALIFYING Having trouble with traffic and staying on the road, especially at Feradura.
RACE Team-mate Bob Mikels got me on the start, but cleanly out-braked him at the first corner. Led the rest of the race except for one bit where Bob got by at Curva 3 and I re-took him at the hairpin in a somewhat sloppy passing manuver. Like last season, Bob was all over me in the last few laps. The first four cars were separated by less than a second at the finish.

QUALIFYING Coudn't quite get down to my time from last season. Having some difficulty understanding what it takes to do a quick lap here.
RACE Riccardo Patrese led from the start. I briefly got by for the lead at Tosa, but Patrese got back by again. I bulled my way past at the Acque Minerale chicane and led from there. I inadvertently spun a backmarker off trying to dive underneath him at the flat-out Tamburello curve. These guys take their line, no matter what.

QUALIFYING Having a lot of trouble with traffic. Also having difficulty getting into a rhythm.
RACE Bob got the jump on me at the start. I touched the back of his car at the right-hand Casino Square and got by although I think it caused Bob a lot of trouble. I led from there. At one point I was pulling away from Riccardo Patrese by two seconds a lap. Again, I've managed four wins from four races. I'm getting better at concentrating although the incident here with Bob and the chop move I made on Riccardo Patrese at the start in Phoenix still has some in the pit lane wondering. Bob was very upset with me!
DRIVER POINTS (1) Wyant 40, (2) Patrese 22, (3) Mikels 10, Prost 10, (5) Mansell 5, (6) Alesi 4

QUALIFYING Once again I'm having a lot of problems with traffic.
RACE Made another chop move at the start, this time on Bob. I led the whole race. On every lap, Bob would take a run at me at the hairpin, but I would out-brake him. Had an off-course excursion and a huge moment on the run down to the final chicane when a backmarker I was lapping suddenly slowed for a yellow flag that I didn't see. Bob apparently had seen the yellow and slowed, because I managed to retain the lead. Five wins in the first five races! That pesky Riccardo Patrese keeps picking up the points. I've been warned about my antics on the starts.

QUALIFYING Seem to have lost my speed here. I'm not getting the esses right.
RACE I feel bad. Once again, I made a terrible start here. Just no revs. I got by Bob in a wild out-braking attempt at the first turn. Unfortunately, I hit the Williams pair and damaged my front wing. Bob somehow got past all this and went on to win the race. I missed the pit entrance and had to go around again. Not a good race. Frank Williams lodged a complaint with the stewards, but nothing ever came of it. Bob's win makes it six in a row for McLaren-Honda.
DRIVER POINTS (1) Wyant 50, (2) Mikels 26, Patrese 26, (4) Prost 14, (5) Alesi 12, (6) Piquet 8

QUALIFYING Added three notches to both wings and did my quickest lap ever here by a half-second. Amazing.
RACE A good, clean win. Riccardo Patrese got me on the start, but I forced my way back in front at the hairpin and led the rest of the way. Kept it on the road this time. Concentrate! This is what I need to do! Nigel Mansell was closing in the last two laps. Seven consecutive wins for McLaren-Honda puts the team well ahead of Williams-Renault in the Constructor standings.

FINISH 18th

QUALIFYING Having trouble getting down to my pole time last season. Played with the wing settings, but it didn't seem to help. Had a lot of problems with traffic.
RACE Got a poor start, tapped Bob and a Williams at the first turn, Copse. For the third season in a row, I got nudged off at Becketts, dropping me well back. This time it was Nelson Piquet in the Benetton. Flew off the road at Stowe trying to set fastest race lap. I almost caught Piquet on the last lap. Here it is, the half-way point in the season and I've got a 24 point lead over Riccardo Patrese. I must keep it together! Seven consecutive wins now puts McLaren-Honda well ahead of the Williams team.

QUALIFYING Did my quickest lap ever here. Still, I seemed slow through the last chicane.
RACE An easy win. This time I got a break. Riccardo Patrese got me on the start, but I blasted back past him going down the next straight, cleanly leading into the first chicane. There must have been a big accident at the first chicane because I came out and nobody was behind me. I maintained an eight second gap over Stefano Modena the rest of the way. None of my rivals scored points.

QUALIFYING I threw on ten notches on both wings and did my quickest lap ever. Still can't figure this place out.
RACE Got away in third place at the start, then hit Jean Alesi braking for the first corner. Seemed like everybody in front slowed too quickly for some reason. Pitted to get my front wing fixed, then spent the whole race staying in front of Alesi trying to figure out why I'm so slow here. Bob won the race, but wouldn't tell me why he's so fast here.
DRIVER POINTS (1) Wyant 70, (2) Patrese 40, (3) Mikels 36, (4) Prost 24, (5) Mansell 23, (6) Alesi 19

QUALIFYING Got the pole, but just barely. Having trouble at Parabolica.
RACE Dropped back at the start, but managed to come out of the Goodyear chicane in second even though leader Jean Alesi somehow got turned around in front of me. Hauled Alesi in and tried to get past at the same spot on the next lap and he got turned around in front of me again! He's crazy! Bulled my way past him and into the lead at Curva Grande. Held off Alesi and Nigel Mansell for the win. I'm two points from winning the World Championship.

QUALIFYING I'm off my pace here. My team tells me not to worry, newly crowned World Champions sometimes let down a little. I don't want to do that!
RACE A surprise second place. Got into the lead at the start by neatly nipping down inside the leaders under braking for the first turn after the start. I led until Nigel Mansell drove around the outside of me at the hairpin a few laps later! Bob was all over me in the last two laps.

QUALIFYING Went out and did my quickest lap ever here on my first hot lap. Getting First Curve and the esses right is critical. Had problems with traffic on the other runs. Collided with a Lotus in pit lane, without any damage. They pull right out in front of you.
RACE Oh well. Stayed in fourth at the start, then got third place by taking a Ferrari at the last chicane. Was hanging onto Bob when I went off in the esses in the last lap.

QUALIFYING Just barely did my quickest time ever. A Brabham hit me on pit road on my second set of tires and damaged a front wing.
RACE Won a shoving match with the Williams pair at the start. Fell to fourth place when I went off at the hairpin at the end of the Brabham straight. Damaged my front wing trying to overtake a Williams and two back markers, again, at the hairpin. Found myself in third place after all that and stayed out with the damaged wing and held off Riccardo Patrese. Bob's win took him past Patrese for third place in the final standings, only one point behind Nigel Mansell.

Season Review

Well, I did it! I won the World Championship! Finally, this season seemed to go fairly smoothly after some of the traumas of the previous three. I always knew I was quick, but learning patience and maintaining the concentration needed for the entire race, for the entire season has been very difficult! My best race was definitely Estoril, not just because I clinched the World Championship there, but because I dominated practice and the race. During the course of the season, I still showed I was capable of immaturity and brain-fade, my worst race probably being Mexico City. I was down to nine pole positions from 12 last season, but I had a total of nine wins, the most important statistic. I really enjoyed the ceremony the simulation played for me, the World Champion, at the end of the season. I've had a lot of fun and learned a lot during my Grand Prix career!
